Spring is the window for the kind of exterior cleaning North Yorkshire homes need after a wet winter. The growth that built up over the cold months is still soft and easy to shift, and you have the dry, brightening weather that lets a treated surface properly finish drying out. Leave it until July and the same algae has hardened, the staining has set, and what would have been a light pre-summer cleaning job becomes a heavier one.
Going top to bottom also saves you doing things twice. There is no sense cleaning a patio on Saturday if the gutter above it is going to overflow muddy water across it on the first wet Tuesday.
Start at the top: roof, render and gutters
Your roof is the one to look at first and touch least. Moss on the tiles holds water and works under the leading edge over a few winters, but it is not a job for a ladder and a stiff brush, and it is not a pressure washing job either. If you can see green from the road, note it down for a soft wash and move on.

Conservatory cleaning is the bit everyone forgets, mostly because you look out of it rather than at it. The roof panels and the frame gutters above them collect more grime than almost any other part of the house, and spring is the time to clear it before you actually want to sit in there.
